For many people finding a new apartment can be a frustrating and anxiety filled experience, but it really does not have to be so bad. If you are in the market for a new apartment, there are a number of things you can do to help smooth out the process and make it enjoyable rather than stressful. This article aims to take the stress and frustration out of apartment shopping by helping you better organize your apartment search. Procrastination is one of the leading contributors to apartment locating problems. If your lease is almost up and you know that you do not want to stay at your current community, start planning now, if you wait until the last minute, you are really going to be in a mess that would have been easily avoided. Make a list of the amenities you appreciate at your current community, another for the amenities that you didn't use and one last list of amenities that you wish your current apartment had. Don't forget to evaluate the size of your current apartment and decide whether you need more space, or if you were renting more space than you needed. Also make a list of areas where you would like your new apartment to be located. Define your rent budget and stick to it. Do not exceed 30% of your income, you will only get yourself in trouble and most reputable communities won't even approve you when you apply.
Compare the specials. Just because one complex is advertising two months of free rent and another is only offering one month of free rent, it does not mean that the community offering two months is the best deal. Take the monthly rate you will be paying and multiply it times the remaining number of months, then divide the total of all of the remaining months by 12, that will give you a monthly average rent to compare each community and see which is really the best, but don't forget to take into account the amenities you need.
Once you have narrowed it down to two or three apartments, go and visit the apartments. Make sure to visit them in the order of your preference. Many apartment communities offer specials that will give you an incentive to sign a lease right there. If you have done all of your research ahead of time and you think the deal sounds too good to pass up, you might have ended your apartment search. If you aren't quite sure, ask if they will give you the rest of the day to think about it, which will buy you a little more time to visit your next favorite community.
Do yourself a favor and don't wait until the last minute to locate an apartment. Moving is considered on of life's greatest stresses, but it does not have to be. Take your time and locate a great apartment that you will be comfortable in for years to come, that way you won't have to go through this every year.
